Self Portrait in Ottawa, linocut, 12” x12”, 2019

This is Adrian Gor's self portrait made in Ottawa, Canada in 2019. It is carved in lino and printed in a limited edition of 12 prints. In our age of selfies, the artist chose to make a self portrait by looking back at the traditional Western style of portraiture, which allows for more time to imagine and contemplate on the world in which we live in now. The background mirrors contemporary society by merging images of consumer products with angels and landscapes from the history of Western art and Ottawa Canada. The background also includes the Canadian Parliament, the National Gallery of Canada with Louise Bourgeois’ The Spider, and the Gamman House where the artists has his studio.
